Vegetable oils and fats

As a result of the removal of animal fats from the market in some EU countries the use of vegetable products as energy providers in the animal feed industry has increased markedly. Vegetable oils and fats have an energy density that is 2-3 times higher than that of carbohydrates and are therefore an important component of feed rations with a high value in nutritional physiology terms. There is increased demand particularly for raw palm oil, raw soya oil and palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) but also for the “soft” fatty acids such as soya, sunflower, rapeseed or peanut oil fatty acids.

Elbe Fetthandel is a competent supplier of vegetable oils, fats and fatty acids for the animal feed and food industries. The company offers a wide range of products.

Fat powders

Elbe Fetthandel supplies many different types of fat powder both to the animal feed industry and to home mixing farmers. Some of the dry fats function purely as sources of energy while others have additional useful properties such as rumen stability or supplying the animal with omega-3 fatty acids.

Lecithins

Lecithins are becoming ever more important in the feed industry. The main arguments in their favour are their properties in relation to nutritional physiology, such as improvement of the digestibility of fats and provision of natural antioxidants.

Glycerol

Glycerol is becoming increasingly available as a result of the growing production of biodiesel. It is therefore an interesting feed component, particularly as it is included in the positive list of individual feedstuffs.

Proteins

This area of the market has also undergone dramatic changes as a result of the absence of animal products. Meat meal is incinerated by the meat meal industry for an additional fee or used to a small extent in pet foods. By contrast meat and bone meal is still sometimes bought as fertilizer. In this area, too, vegetable proteins have taken the place of animal proteins.
